It is award season! It's been a long time coming for the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards. The event was postponed in September due to the SAG-AFTRA and The Writers Guild of America strike. But the celebrities came out in droves on January 15 to make their red carpet appearance. These celebs have had a busy awards schedule. The Critics Choice Awards took place the night before the Emmys and only one week ago were the (disastrous) Golden Globes, followed by the Governors Awards.
The nominees flocked to the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles to celebrate the best performances on television. Winners can be found at the end of this blog.
Let's see how the 2024 Emmy Awards fashion stacked up:
Suki Waterhouse | 8/10
Suki absolutely stunned on the red carpet in a stark red down, touting her pregnant belly and a bit of side boob. To be honest, seems like the most comfortable option while pregnant. Props to her!
Martin Short, Selena Gomez and Steve Martin | 7/10, 8/10, 7/10
Martin Short and Steve Martin looked classically handsome in their bowties but there isn't much else to say. Selena Gomez however, was a crown ruby jewel on the carpet. The sparkling cut outs add intrigue to the skin tight gown but I wish the midsection didn't look so yellow. Her necklace is dazzling and I'm sure costs more than what I make in a year.
Pedro Pascal and Lux Pascal | 5/10, 7/10
Pedro, a crowd favorite, arrived to the awards ceremony sans suit coat. I'm all for a different type of look, but the sweater he chose is too thin. It's see through in the chest and isn't doing him any favors. Also in full black, Lux shows her taste does not end with her name. This mermaid gown with a high neck and open back is reminiscent of a movie prom queen.
Emmy Awards 2024 Best Dressed: Issa Rae | 10/10
Now this is how you make a statement! It's ghillie suit meets feminine fashion. I'm obsessed, no notes. That's my President Barbie.
Sarah Snook | 10/10
A much needed improvement from the Critics Choice Awards. She knows she's coming in red hot, hands filled with trophies, on a seemingly never-ending award streak. The skirt has enough volume to lay much like a rose. She balances the feminine with a bold, dark smoky eye and a slicked back hairstyle.
Joy Sunday 9/10
This is a beautiful ensemble. It's giving grace, confidence and power. It's doing a lot, off the shoulder, bell bottoms and a double train but it's done so well monochromatically, I love it.
Quinta Brunson | 1/10
Who did my girl Quinta sooo dirty? This pink Christian Dior dress is made out of crushed satin fabric, giving it this wrinkled appearance. People took to the internet to ask why this dress wasn't ironed or steamed ahead of her carpet walk. It makes me sad because the color, ankle cut and neckline are all so flattering. I'd stay away from this fabric in the future... for all celebs.
Sam Richardson | 9/10
Sam Richardson's double breasted cream and black jacket has an intriguing texture that makes me want to reach through my computer screen and touch it. He looks classy and had the sense he was doing enough without a tie. Great choice.
Liv Hewson | 8/10
It's giving sexy music conductor... This look is by no means original but it's still serving on the carpet. May the double sided tape be ever in your favor. Points for sternum tattoo.
Tyler James Williams | 4/10
Another notable improvement from the Critics Choice Awards, Tyler is wearing a suit that actually fits but it is not looking comfortable. It unfortunately looks like he cannot bend his joints.
Giancarlo Esposito | 8/10
I am digging this maroon jacket with a silky collar to the jacket. With the matching hat, round specs and shiny shoes, this just brings a smile to my face. Well done!
Jennifer Coolidge | 5/10
There is just a bit too much going on here. If this look lost its sheer sleeves and Jennifer had less hair framing her face, this would be more pleasing to look at. I like the warm sea urchin pattern over black polka dot sheer fabric.
Elizabeth Debicki | 8/10
Elizabeth, I am so sorry – I always think you're Sophie Turner. Maroon looks fantastic against her porcelain complexion and the boat neckline gives this a regal look. The side tie is a subtle addition along with the matching nails.
Sheryl Lee Ralph | 9/10
Sheryl wore a white dress very similar to this at the Critics Choice Awards but it had wayyyy too much going on. This is a much more palatable version, showing a bit of chest and letting her arms shine! The mermaid skirt looks perfect on her body and highlights all the curves in the right places.
Hannah Waddingham | 10/10
Hannah showed up looking to show up all of the Bravo housewives. This seems like a strong contender for an intro into whatever city she would prefer. The plunging neckline is complemented by delicate sea foam beading and tulle work. I cannot imagine how long it took to make this gown.
Padma Lakshmi | 4/10
In another green number, Padma is showing off a strappy boho pattern. The movement of the skirt is beautiful. Lime green was certainly a choice, she definitely stands out.
Jenna Ortega | 6/10
See through was definitely a trend on this carpet and it was done very tastefully by Jenna Ortega, head to toe. This is reminiscent of the Secret Garden but leaves me wanting something more. More flowers! Less boning and structural elements!
Juliette Lewis | 2/10
Cheap airline stewardess goes to Macy's to get her homecoming dress. Yikes.
Rachel Brosnahan | 10/10
Now THIS is a LEWK. The slit shows just enough leg to make the corset top a tasteful addition to this smoldering look. She looks good and she knows it. Rachel opted for a slicked back hairdo and lets the dress do the talking.
Abby Elliot | 1/10
I have one question, what is going on with this neckline? Even with the bizarre cut, this is a boring dress with nothing going on.
Keri Russell 6/10
This is giving off drama to the max. The silky top cascades into a mysterious fabric cloud behind her. Doubles as a blankie in case the hotel ballroom is cold. The brooch adds a much needed sparkling flair.
Natasha Lyonne | 3/10
I liked this when I first saw it and as I look at it longer I can't help but think, "What in the Shein is going on here?" The see through silver fabric accentuates the body but I can't get behind the black underwear choice. The breast embellishments give off Madonna at first glance and slowly start to look sadder and more lopsided as I stare. Not her best work.
Aubrey Plaza | 10/10
I un-ironically love this dress. I originally saw this on Twitter and accounts were editing messages onto the "Post-it" bodice. I was disappointed to see no note from Aubrey, as I have a feeling it would have been hilarious. Even sans-note, this is an elegant column dress in a baby yellow that I just want to look at for a long time. It's weird, sharp and stunning, much like Aubrey herself.
Emmy Awards 2024 Worst Dressed: Kathryn Hahn | 1/10
The unsupportive bra is forgivable. The cheap distressed look at the bottom of the skirt reused in the necktie? Criminal. I'm so sorry Kathryn, you deserve better.
Simona Tabasco | 10/10
It's giving dream magazine cut out vision board and I am fully on board. THIS is a floral design that Miranda Priestly couldn't gawk at. It's different, it's quirky and it's cute as hell. I loved Simona's cunning and gorgeous character on White Lotus and she's clearly putting the fun into a FUNdamental red carpet look.
Ayo Edebiri 7/10
This all black ensemble is beautifully structured leather that slightly reminds me of the Spectre insignia a la James Bond. It's cool, chic and has pockets. What else could you want?
