Golden Globe recap: Jo Koy ruined his chances of ever being invited to host one of these award shows ever again. Woman stayed winning. Celebs took to the carpet in true style. Let's dive into the fashion that was displayed at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards.
It's like all of the celebs knew they were attending a funeral. At the point these photos were taken, they certainly did not know whose funeral it would be. However, mere minutes into Jo Koy's opening monologue the death of his career was palpable. Grimaces took hold of many in the audience, Selena Gomez had to physically hide her face out of second hand embarrassment and Taylor Swift kept a tight face in response to a lazy joke in poor taste about her.
Hari Nef | 8/10
Dr. Barbie showed up in a tiered tulle number with silver detailing. I love the layers, it adds length to the gown. The black looks great with her red hair.
Sheryl Lee Ralph 10/10
This is a fantastic black fitted dress with a yellow neckline and puff sleeve detail that cascades down into a trailing train. She looks gorgeous, classy and confident. This is old Hollywood glam at its peak.
Kristen Wiig | 6/10
This is the only two piece set on the carpet and for good reason, it's out of style. While the midriff shown is minimal, it still has an air of 2016 fashion. The criss cross pattern, bustier top, bows on the straps and the division in pieces, there is too much going on. I think this would have been better as a singular gown.
Hannah Waddingham | 4/10
The lace looks cheap and when that is the focal point of the entire look, nothing else stands out. She looks confident but I can only imagine how itchy that lace is.
Lenny Kravitz | 8/10
You know I am a hater for a basic suit but THIS is beautiful. Lenny forwent the dress shirt, not necessary obviously. The silky lapel in a deep plunge brings attention to his hips before growing out in a wide legged pant. Clearly those viral Halara pants are on everyone's FYP.
Allison Williams | 6/10
Is... peplum back? While we shouldn't jump to bring out our peplum tops from a decade ago, I would consider taking stock of what you currently have. This is not the only peplum detail from this carpet. The combination of fabrics and textures on this dress with a sweetheart neckline that takes a plunge is visually interesting. I wish she had a sparkling necklace to tie it together.
Jared Leto | 2/10
Not everyone has the swagger like Lenny Kravitz to pull off the no-shirt look. Jared looks like he forgot this event was today and threw on the first jacket and dress pants he saw. The gloves give it a murderer's edge and not in the I killed this look kind of way.
Pom Klementieff | 3/10
It's like if a sexy french maid costume had a baby with Bradley Cooper's Maestro.
James Marsden | 9/10
Is it cliche to say this man's look Enchanted me? Do I care? This man looks like a royal bachelor: unbuttoned shirt, nice watch, folded pocket square and if my eyes do not deceive me, a suit made out of husband material.
Angela Bassett | 8/10
A beautiful and sexy black number that hugs Angela's body in all the right places. The train elongates her body. This really could have used a diamond necklace. The dress looks super soft and I would love to know what kinds of strapless bra is giving her all of that support.
Amanda Seyfried | 9/10
Oh! It's giving Mean Girls but all grown up! This is classy, fun and girly – the same sentiments of the highest grossing movie this year. Amanda is a vision and there's a 30% chance she's already slaying the house down.
Reese Witherspoon | 8/10
Did Reese and Amanda have a sleepover the night before the event? These dresses are really similar, but this one is, of course, giving more of a Legally Blonde nod. The simple twist in the pink detail is pretty, but I wish the sleeve was as smooth as the chest piece.
Jennifer Lawrence | 7/10
I really enjoy the cut of this dress! The plunge, the wide straps and the fabric not only make this an elegant look, it also seemingly makes it super comfortable. And even if it wasn't, she made it clear that if she didn't win, she would be leaving to go get comfortable.
Andra Day | 1/10
Was this a Shein purchase? A Temu purchase? An Amazon purchase that had zero reviews? What's going on here? The chunky gems and cheap feathered fabric is just not appealing to look at.
Carey Mulligan | 9/10
That's my Daisy Buchanan! She looks flawless, elegant, oh-so-classy and frankly, like a billion dollars. The dress fits her like a glove and the peekaboo white sweetheart neckline is like a much more sophisticated Margaret from Christmas Vacation (this is a compliment).
Timothée Chalamet | 8/10
Timmy's look here with a sequin suit jacket showed he was ready to sparkle, but just maybe not in a photo with Selena. Apparently it's all been sorted out and reps from both sides have said Timothy did not refuse a picture with Selena Gomez at Kylie Jenner's behest... but it's still one of the more exciting things to have happened during the award show.
Sarah Snook | 7/10
We're seeing a lot of pattern and fabric mixing on this carpet. I think I like this one though. It's sexy without being revealing and fits her very well. She's dressed like her billionaire father just died and she's about to inherit his massive wealth and media company. Cheers, sister.
Jeremy Allen White | 5/10
I know the relaxed or distressed look is kind of Jeremy's "thing" but it looks disheveled. On purpose or not, disheveled looks disheveled. Points for the sheer top.
Billie Eilish | 0/10
Girl, what? It's like if the cartoon Madelyn character married the canon khaki ankle length skirt Bella wears to meet the Cullens for the first time and they had a baby that wore mary janes. And what is going on with these wired frames specs? Renee Rapp is also wearing these types of glasses and its giving me major early 2000s cringe.
Pedro Pascal | 8/10
Okay, sling– I mean, slay. I love this Zodiac killer shirt and he's doing the most while immobile. Hats off king.
2024 Golden Globes Best Dressed: Dua Lipa | 10/10
THIS is how you work a red carpet! The skeleton sparkling detail on the bodice cascades daintily into the mermaid skirt giving intrigue to this black gown. She's accessorized well and is one of the best dressed at the 2024 Golden Globes.
Janelle James | 8/10
I really love this trend of pairing an elegant black dress with a statement cape/train. This is a bold look that I'm sure comes in handy if the hotel ballroom gets cold or if you get sleepy during a bad comedian's set.
Elizabeth Banks | 8/10
A little sparkle, corset bodice and the wet slicked back look? A win in my book, but I do have to remove points for the shoes that you have to zoom in to see... I genuinely thought she might have been barefoot.
Celine Song | 6/10
I have not seen an ankle length skirt that wasn't in the boho trend for awhile. This looks good on Celine. She looks relaxed and comfortable and gave us another moment to stick a pin in before Aubrey Plaza did at the Emmy Awards.
Colman Domingo | 10/10
This man KNOWS how to work a red carpet. Every single look this award season has taken my breath away. It is so difficult to find a man who inspires ahead of the event. Colman is one of the best dressed men at the 2024 Golden Globes and he has the confidence to know he's owning it.
Greta Gerwig | 7/10
A very simple silky black number with matching gloves. This Barbie is the world's highest grossing female director.
Rosamund Pike | 4/10
I think this would have been a better look with no sleeves. From what I understand, the veil is covering an injury but I think it is bringing more negative attention to her face. She is so beautiful and if she really wanted to cover her face, I wish she chose one that looked less like a black lacy apple.
Jo Koy | 1/10
Not funny. Not stylish. He only gets one point for the jacket. The only good choice he made all night.
Cillian Murphy | 3/10
Basic suit with no tie. He can split an atom but can't make an explosion on the red carpet.
Ariana Greenblatt | 5/10
A sexy tux with a feminine flair. I love the accessories and the smoky eye. At the end of the day, she is not a Barbie she's a Bratz doll and she's not afraid to show it.
Lily Gladstone | 9/10
Another fun boa/train moment! Black, white and diamonds – she looks elegant and absolutely crushed her acceptance speech in Blackfeet NOT a global language.
Andrew Scott | 4/10
Andrew looks kind of stinky here. The stretched out white tee under the suit is giving morning after an Elvis chapel Vegas wedding.
Elle Fanning | 10/10
OOoh! This champagne ballgown has all the feminine frills that look best on Elle Fanning. The billowing skirt, large bow details and sparkling diamond accessories look incredible on her. Another satin pointed heel!
Greta Lee | 10/10
If a toga could slay, this would be it. It looks soft, dainty and ancient in a Rome way. Revered, curated and a true triumph. The cut and hitched train look beautiful and are complemented by the short black bob.
Will Farrell | 6/10
Father of the bride looking fit. Nice giant watch.
Gillian Anderson | 8/10
I love this gown so much. Zoom in on the dress to see the true femininity of the gown. I love the strapless cream look accented with simple diamond jewelry. Her hair is washing her out, I wish her team went a tone darker to really nail this look.
Ali Wong | 3/10
A white sophomore homecoming dress. Pretty necklace!
Elizabeth Olsen | 2/10
At first, I love this dress. But then my eyes trail down and I'm confused by the blocky fabric and different lace. It's doing too much. The bottom is lacy boho, the train is giving off wedding vibes and the top is a trendy corset, creating an overall disorienting look.
Riley Keough | 7/10
White lace done right. I like the 2 tiered look with the chunky gold necklace.
Camila Morrone | 9/10
The low straight cut neckline and the sheer shawl here is monochromatically breathtaking. Even without a sparkling accessory, she looks flawless.
Cailee Spaeny | 9/10
Such a pretty look! One Elvis would surely not appreciate. The ankle cut is a call back to her character in Priscilla, as is the dainty flower print. The exposed boning in the corset cheapens the look.
Natasha Lyonne | 9/10
This is a weird look, which is why Natasha is rocking it on the red carpet! This plays to her strengths as a quirky actress and the exaggerated neckline allows her to stand tall and resolute. The chunky earrings were a great choice as well! Brava!
Ayo Edebiri | 3/10
Yawn. Where is the intrigue? The pizzaz? It's a winter formal dress with a train. Some sparkling jewelry would bring a little something to this overall very dull look. More satin pointed heels though 👀
Rachel Brosnahan | 8/10
I wish they left her hair down for this striking red look. The high slit, ruby red heels and intricate button detailing are all super luxe. What's not luxe? Black underwear showing.
Danielle Brooks | 9/10
Amazing! This is a red carpet look! It's doing a lot without doing too much. Danielle is there to shine and she is ready to have her photo taken. The dress looks great on her and the shawl detail adds extra oomph to this standout look.
Florence Pugh | 8/10
There is no doubt that Florence Pugh looks great here. Red looks great on her and the exposed leg under tool is a nice touch. She is a blooming rose and I'm thrilled to see her future looks.
Julianne Moore | 9/10
Elegance at it's finest, plus... it has pockets!! The scooped neckline and statement necklace make this full skirted gown even more feminine.
Da’Vine Joy Randolph | 8/10
This dress has both a sequined Little Mermaid neckline going on up top and a peplum waist detail... but I don't hate it. The gown looks gorgeous on her body and the color exudes confidence.
Selena Gomez | 4/10
I want to love this dress but between the asymmetrical high-low skirt and the bondage style top that seems too small, I'm having trouble finding anything I like about it. Perhaps if only one of these bold choices were taken, this look would be more stunning.
Barry Keoghan | 4/10
When you have an awards show at 5pm, a date with a vampire at 6pm, and have to run to the skate park at 7pm... this look can do it all. All but deciding on a theme.
Robert Downey Jr. & Susan Downey | 7/10 & 8/10
Robert looks good in this monochromatic maroon suit, his signature sunglasses, and his Frankenstein shoes. His wife looks gorgeous in a matching sparkling gown.
Emily Blunt & John Krasinski | 9/10 & 6/10
No, they are not getting divorced you TikTok lip readers. What they ARE doing, is absolutely serving on the red carpet. Emily's golden bodice trailing into a white tulle skirt is sexy and exudes confidence, plus I love her diamond necklace. John mixed two shades of red into his look and finished it off with a bowtie.
Emma Stone | 7/10
I thought this dress would wash poor Emma out, especially with the cream flower background but she looks beautiful. However, the dress did not need a slit that high in the middle of the skirt.
Karen Gillan | 1/10
I know she was there for Guardians of the Galaxy and was maybe trying to give us an "out-there" space look, but this is too much texture and shape for a red carpet. Re-wearable for a future Met Gala, I'm sure.
Naomi Watts | 8/10
Stunning! She looks like a silver lady liberty.
Lisa Ann Walter | 6/10
The sequins look cheap and so does the detailing and fabric of the train, but the gloves are a nice touch and she looks overjoyed to be there.
Quinta Brunson | 4/10
This dress is beautiful and Quinta's glam complements the look well, but she looks SO short.
America Ferrera 10/10
THIS is how we do a red carpet! This look is EVERYTHING, he's just Ken. Silver looks great on America and she looks strong and confident.
Julia Garner | 6/10
I really liked this when I first saw it and now I'm just seeing a cheap sequined skirt with thick suspenders covering her boobs.
Elizabeth Debicki | 7/10
In Princess Diana we trust! This is a great cool toned look on Elizabeth.
Christina Ricci | 8/10
I never like to see the shape wear under the gown but the sparkling see through layer is stunning. The black purse and her black hair bring your attention to her face, proving she is wearing the dress and not the other way around.
Issa Rae | 6/10
Issa Rae came to the 2024 Golden Globes in a golden shimmering art deco dress with understated glam.
Matt Bomer | 10/10
Matt is the blueprint. He came to make a statement and break some hearts. The jacket matches his eyes (how dreamy) and his accessories show you he's a true movie star, with all the suave and finesse one needs to succeed.
J. Smith-Cameron | 5/10
It's like Hillary Clinton, if she slayed.
Charles Melton | 7/10
It's not taking a fashion risk if you choose a deep navy/almost black suit jacket. He looks handsome though, a bit like a young James Bond.
Bella Ramsey | 1/10
This is a terrible look. It's like a school uniform with chunky shoes.
Fantasia Barrino | 9/10
Scooped neckline, sparkling waistband, baby blue tulle skirt, long black gloves and a diamond bracelet? It's everything I could ask for in a look. I wish we could have also gotten a sparkling necklace to finish the full glam.
Justin Hartley 4/10
This camel suit with a bowtie is boring. I thought this was Glen Powell for a second. It's giving average white guy doing something "different" and wearing brown instead of black. Take a bigger risk next time. Nice watch.
Tyler James Williams | 2/10
Please. Anyone. Get this man a better stylist. I know he could be stunting on the red carpet if he wasn't dresses like he was going to a photoshoot at J.C. Penny's. The chain and flower are at least different, so points for that but I'm going to need this man in a fitted suit ASAP thank you.
Oprah Winfrey 7/10
Here for the Color Purple, Oprah arrived in... well, the color purple. This bold color and off-the-shoulder gown fits Oprah like a glove and her dangling earrings elevate this kind of mother-of-the-bride look.
Brie Larson 10/10
No one was talking about this dress but I truly think this is a gorgeous lavender number. It's a 50s inspired cut with a sweetheart neckline in a beautiful soft purple. The pointed heels launch it into the current era. Her Hollywood curls and diamond necklace cement Brie as a Hollywood golden girl.
Helen Mirren | 4/10
Bippity, boppity, BOOOOOO to the designer who put poor Helen in this purple comforter. She deserves better. Her glam is fabulous and so are her accessories.
Natalie Portman 10/10
Crystals. Florals. Pointillism. Van Gogh. Georges Seurat. Slicked back bun. It's gorgeous, understated and much like in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, the longer I look at it, the more entranced I become.
Hunter Schafer | 9/10
This might look like a baby pink dementor but this dress's movement and texture in the breeze is beautiful. Despite Hunter's pale tone, this dress is still a stand out. Well done!
2024 Golden Globes Best Dressed: Margot Robbie 10/10
Channeling SuperStar Barbie, Margot channeled the 1977 doll’s 50th anniversary iteration in a custom hot pink V-neck dress covered in sequins. She wore a pink tulle polka-dot boa around her arms, from Armani Privé’s fall 2022 couture collection.
Jennifer Lopez 10/10
I really like this gorgeous baby pink look. The feminine cut of the dress paired with the rose petal arms details for the detachable train is old Hollywood glamour at its peak. The curls are beautiful and her glam is soft, really allowing the dress to shine.
2024 Golden Globes Worst Dressed: Sandra Hüller | 1/10
This dress looks cheap and the color is off putting. I think it's clashing with her skin tone. The cut is not doing much to make this look better and the boning on the corset top doesn't seem to actually run through the gown, giving the bodice a weird V-shaped line. Perhaps some more jewelry or a belt could have saved this look.
Taylor Swift | 10/10
Is it green for Debut? It is green for reputation? Is it green for Debutation?? Tell me your secrets, Taylor. The green sequin gown is dazzling on Swift and the satin pointed heels add a softness to this otherwise slick look. I love the cut on the side for a bit of a peek-a-boo moment. What can this woman not do?
